Time Travelling In Maastricht

This weekend, I was visiting Maastricht again and my journey took me to a part of the city that I hadn’t seen before. After crossing through a park, we arrived in an older part of the city. The park had already been something else. There was a big part of the city wall still intact, and cannons had been placed in front of the wall. Tactically sound? Perhaps not, but it sure looked impressive.

We also got to see one of the gates of the city, and as we passed through it we stumbled upon what appeared to be a park with a few big mansions and other old buildings that gave you the impression that you walked back into the 19th century. Once you turned your back to this interesting plaza and walked for a few hundred meters, we were back in the city, with it’s shops and the local carnival that was about to kick off.
